So Sick of This

I just feel sick for the University of Texas at Austin right now. As you've probably heard, they've had another shooting there today (some of you may know about the infamous 1966 tower shooting there). If you haven't seen the headlines, you can read about it here.

Thank goodness it appears that no one other than the shooter was hurt, but it just makes me so angry that people keep doing this. A college is supposed to be a safe place where students can feel at home, learn new things, meet new peopel, and grow into wonderful young adults. Part of this culture is that colleges are often very open and trusting spaces, which sadly, also leaves them vulnerable to people looking to make a statement.

If you watch the video from the link above, you can hear the siren warning system going off across campus. How ridiculous that so many institutions (including the one I work at) have had to install these systems for fear of something happening on their campus? It's just heartbreaking to me that these UT students are now going to have this memory associated with thoughts of their "home." I'm just sick of it.
